Update: New Book and Second Edition
Madainn mhath, a chairdean!/Good morning, friends!
I have not been posting as consistently as of late, and for that I apologize but I also bring exciting news. I have produced a new book entitled Aifreann na hÉireann, a Mass book intended to be complementary with the Portús. Based on the Lorrha-Stowe Missal, the Aifreann consists of an Order of Mass, three votive Masses, an Order of Baptism, Visitation of the Sick, and an extended section on the rubrics derived from the Tract on the Mass. This book has been accepted by Wipf and Stock for publication and will be available either in December or January. There are a few clergy from Presbyterian, Anglican/Episcopal, and Orthodox traditions that have volunteered to try it at their respective parishes for Wednesday services. If you are clergy and minister of Gaelic extraction, or minister to a Gaelic parish, please reach out and I will try to secure a copy for you.
I have also produced a second edition of the Portús, which will hopefully be ready at the same time as the Aifreann. This edition will have several prayers omitted that are derived from the Missal, which includes a more extensive chapter on how to use the book, and will be edited for both individual and corporate worship. Together, these texts form the basis of a complete Rite to which will also offer a translation in Irish and Scots Gaelic in the near future. The former is currently in discussion with the publisher, which will hopefully be resolved.
Tapadh leibh/Thank you,
Dustin A. Ashley
