Having Scottish and Irish DNA entails that you have this ancestry, but does not automatically entail that you are “Celtic” per se. It is important to note that the term Celtic - and by extension Gaelic or Brittonic - are ethnic terms based on language. If you want to be part of this community, I would encourage you to dig deeper into your family history and learn the story of how your family came from these places. I would also encourage you to learn either Irish or Scots Gaelic to connect with these communities on a much deeper level. I hope this helps.
Thanks Dustin. I hope one day to work more on my family tree, but I do know that my mom's ancestors include Kelleys which I assume is (or can be) Irish. We have visited Ireland three times and Scotland once, but unlikely to make it back there again unless we win lottery! I live in the US, so not likely to find a Gaelic community here, and I am 77, so learning another language at this age, is also unlikely. This is a longer response than you may have wanted, but thanks again for answering. Peace, LaMon.
Question: I have some Scottish and Irish DNA. Does that automatically mean I am Celtic? I would assume not. Peace, LaMon
Fàilte/Greetings!
